Unfortunately, in some divorces, and after divorces, there may be threats made against a spouse, and even violent attacks. It is often not enough to just call the police. The victim may be either a wife or sometimes a husband. The law prohibits domestic violence, and provides a procedure for obtaining a court order prohibiting contact with the victim. This court order, if not obeyed by a violent spouse, can lead to an order of contempt with a fine or even jail time if it is not obeyed. It is a serious matter, to be taken seriously. No one should be subjected to it. If you are, you need to seek help from your attorney and the court, in addition to the police. In addition, once you get a court restraining order served on the errant spouse, you should carry it with you at all times, to show it to the police when needed. Don't let assaults happen, take action.
